Sawyer, Jack and Sayid board the boat to find Desmond insaide. Sayid tells Jack he will use the boat to form plan B. Locke tries to force Eko not to push the button but Eko is adamant he will. Micheal's group sets out. Desmond freely gives the boat to Sayid. Jin and Sun join the boat as well. A bird goes tearing by Micheal's group and says "Hurley". Micheal finds his gun is not loaded. Charlie tells Locke that Desmond's back. Des and Locke have a heart to heart, and decide to find out what happens when the button isn't pushed. Locke shorts out the hatch power. Eko is locked out.Eko goes to Charlie for help.

In the flashback we learn about Desmond. He was in the military but got thrown out. He did some prison time. He was blackmailed to leave hi love Penelope by her father. Libby was the one who gave him the boat so he could enter a race. We see when he landed on the Island, meets Kelvin, and eventually kills him. He also knows the button is real and has a failsafe that Kelvin gives him the key to.

Kate realizes her group is being followed. Kate and Saywer shoot and kill one of the 'Others'. They want to follow but Jack refuses, instead forces Micheal to confess about tthe trap/deal he made. Eko rigs up dynamite and lights it. Charlie runs. Locke tells Desmond about Boone. Micheal's group stumbles upon all the journals from the Hatch Locke and Eko found (called The Pearl). Jack sees Sayid's signal fire but cannot go to it because their group gets tazered by the Others.

Desmond questions Locke about The Pearl. Looking at the printouts they had brought back, Desmond realizes he crashed flight 815 by not pushing the button. The others bring Jack, Sawyer and Hurley to a pier with a boat docked. Desmond decides he wants to push the button and fights Locke so Locke smashes the computer.

Desmond rushes off to the failsafe, and turns the key. The whole sky lights up, Jacks group can even see it from where they are. The hatch door comes crashing down by Charlie. On the pier, Gale steps out and tells Micheal the boat is his and Walt is inside. The Others let Hurley go.
