Naveen Andrews
Birth Name: Naveen William Sidney Andrews
Date of birth: 17 January 1969
Place of birth: England, UK
Naveen is the eldest of two brothers, and has had an interest in acting since an early age.
Although he portrays an Iraqi on the show Lost, he is actually British, of Indian descent and his first name means "new" in Sanskrit.
When he was 16, he fell in love with his Mathematics teacher, Geraldone Feakins who had his child, Jaisal, in 1992.
Londoner Naveen Andrews auditioned for drama school and was accepted at London's Guildhall School of Music and Drama. It was a successful time for the Guildhall, his contemporaries included fellow British movie stars Ewan McGregor and David Thewlis.
Naveen starred as the curiously named 'Bike' in Hanif Kureshi's film, London Kills Me.
In 1993, he was nominated by the Evening Standard Drama Awards as Most Promising Newcomer for his part in Wild West. But his big break occurred when he was cast opposite Juliette Binoche, Ralph Fiennes and Kristin Scott Thomas in the multi Oscar-winning film, The English Patient.
He went on to appear in such films as Kama Sutra, Mighty Joe Young, True Love and Chaos, Rollerball, Bride and Prejudice and Drowning on Dry Land.
Drowning on Dry Land co-starred Barbara Hershey - his current partner who is 21 years his senior.
Highlights of his acclaimed television appearances include his performance in The Chippendale Murders and The Buddha of Suburbia, for which he was nominated for Best Actor at the San Remo Film Festival.
Naveen has been nominated for an Emmy and a Golden Globe for his role as Sayid Jarrah in Lost and he has earned much praise from critics.
He enjoys playing the guitar and is a fan of country music. He also likes composing and reading and he currently splits his time between Hawaii, where Lost is filmed, and Los Angeles, where he lives with his girlfriend.
Naveen was voted Sexiest Survivalist in 2005 by People Magazine.
