Daniel Dae Kim
Birth Name: Daniel Dae Kim
Date of birth: 4 August 1968
Place of birth: Pusan, South Korea
A graduate of New York University, Daniel Dae Kim (not to be confused with Daniel Day-Lewis) has been steadily building a successful career as an actor. However, while getting small parts in plays and writing and performing in an improv comedy group, he seriously considered a career in investment banking.
On television, he starred in two series of 24 as CTU agent Tom Baker, and on ER as Ken Sung, the social worker for children's services. He has also played attorney Gavin Park on Angel, as well as appearing on numerous shows as a guest star.
His big screen credits include the blockbuster Spider-Man 2 and, most recently, The Cave, a horror/thriller about a pack of divers who become trapped in an underwater cave network.
He continues to pursue a stage career in both Los Angeles and New York, performing anything from the plays of Shakespeare and Becket to improvised comedy.
Recently he optioned the rights to the Leonard Chang novel, Over the Shoulder, a noir thriller. The project is currently in development to become an independent feature.
Daniel admits to enjoying finally playing a Korean character in Lost, having previously been cast as almost every other Asian nationality but his own.
Daniel grew up in Easton, Pennsylvania and he attended Freedom High School in Bethlehem, the same high school as Dwayne Johnson - "The Rock".
Due to his childhood in America, Daniel knew very little Korean before he did Lost. He has said that his co-star on that show, Yunjin Kim, who is fluent in both English and Korean, has been invaluable in coaching him on his Korean, which has apparently improved. Ironically, to the audience's knowledge, Daniel's character knows nothing but Korean.
Daniel earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Haverford College in Theatre & Political Science and he holds an M.F.A. from the Graduate Acting program at New York University.
His nicknames include Danny and DDK and he is sometimes credited as Daniel Day Kim.
Daniel has 2 children and his acting heroes are Paul Scofield, Gene Hackman, Robert De Niro, Sidney Poitier, Gene Kelly, Denzel Washington, Robert Duvall and, his favourite, Jonathan Pryce.
He was included on People Magazine's list of the sexiest men alive in 2005. Matthew McConaughey topped the list.
