We meet Kate. Turns out she is a fugitive on the run. She was In Austrailia working on a farm and the guy turned her In. She was being transported back to the States by a US Marshall. During The Crash, The Marshall is critically Injured.While Kate is off on the hike The Marshall shows Jack her mugshot.
Sayid and company on the trek with the radio decide not to tell the others that the signal they heard was a french woman who had been stranded there for 16 years. They return and Kate tells Jack anyway.
The Marshall gets worse, Sawyer tries to give him a Mercy Killing and misses. Jack is forced to uthinize him.
